ABOUT JOHN MEIKLE

Landscape and the Natural World are the two themes that predominantly inform my sculpture. Often these themes will overlap.

Landscape -

I am interested in the historical and contemporary marks we leave through agricultural and industrial interventions. Strip lynchets, neolithic cup and ring carvings, mining, woodland management etc. References to cartography, drawing conventions used in map making, contour, symbol and scale are employed. Within the work, figures, maps and materials often relate to a specific site.

Natural World -

This reflects my own personal relationship and experiences with the natural world. My interaction, management and observations of the vastly varied organisms that inhabit my own small woodland.

Materials -

Recent sculpture (last 3 years).

Predominately Oak & Hornbeam sustainably sourced from my own woodland, local stone and recycled pewter.
